Battling point shows we're heading in the right direction

After collecting a healthy haul of points in their last three games, boss Owen Coyle is eager for the team to continue in the same vein of form ahead of the busy Christmas period.

Wins over Brentford and Newcastle were followed up by a hard-working point against Huddersfield Town at the weekend, with the manager encouraged that they were still able to add to their tally against the Terriers despite not being at their best.

Coyle feels that the battling qualities that they showed on Saturday bodes well moving forward and that they are heading in the right direction.

"We've got seven points out of nine, we'd have loved to have had nine, but we've got seven and now we've got to move on," he told Radio Rovers.

"That has got to be the sounding board for moving into the fixtures coming up.

"We know we weren't at our best against Huddersfield, but we've shown that we can still match up, be physical and be brave and we are always a great threat.

"Those qualities are very important in the Championship and when we can ally that to our passing game, then that results in three points, there's no doubt about that.

"When you are a little bit out of sorts then it is important that you dig in there and you go and earn that point.

"That is a game that we would have lost earlier in the season by two or three. But what we have now is a group, a tight-knit group that is working very hard. I think that is 12 games now and 18 points from them, so we know we are going into the right direction moving into a derby next weekend at Preston."
