Damien Johnson was delighted with his side's display as the Under-23s defeated Norwich City 3-1 on Monday afternoon.
A first half header from Joe Rankin-Costello was followed up by two late goals from Connor Mahoney as they claimed a deserved three points.
The development squad boss felt the result was fully deserved against what was a strong Norwich outfit.
"It was a good performance from us," said Johnson. "The lads showed good character throughout.
"We played very well, we dominated the first half in terms of possession and scored a good goal.
"But they got back into the game with a really poor penalty decision as the foul was outside the box. The referee apologised afterwards.
"The lads could have felt sorry for themselves, but I felt pretty confident we'd get more chances and we did. We looked like scoring every time we broke forward, Mahoney, Rankin-Costello and Connor Thomson were all threatening.
"It is pleasing to get some goals, we had been due some."
The Under-23s aren't now back in action until after the Christmas break when they play Swansea City at Leyland on Monday 9th January.
