A derby clash to relish

9 December 2016

Owen Coyle is anticipating a passionate encounter when Rovers take on Preston North End this Saturday evening.

Rovers go into the Lancashire derby at Deepdale in fine form, looking to stretch their unbeaten run in the league to four matches, and eager to get more points on the board to continue to rise the table.

But the manager knows that they won't find it easy against the Lilywhites and is anticipating a match full of pride and intensity.

"It is going to be a tough game as Preston are a good side," said Coyle.

"Simon Grayson is someone that I have a lot of time for, both on and off the park, so we will have to be at our best that is for sure.

"I expect a very high tempo game, it will be full of intensity, it will be full of passion, as it should be given it's a derby.

"We will want to make sure that even though it is a derby we keep our discipline, we pass and move the ball and we play the game, because that is important to us. Understanding how to win a tough game and doing everything in your power to try and get over the line and get those valuable three points.

"We've taken seven points from the last nine and we'd have love to have had all nine, but we know that as a group we didn't pass and move well enough last week.

"But there was a lot of nice things that we did, how hard we worked, our brave defending, so if we can bring it all together then it will give us the opportunity to win games and that is that we are looking to do.

"It is live on Sky so it is a great opportunity to go and show the quality we have and to get the three points."
