Boss Owen Coyle has confirmed that Wes Brown will feature for the Under-23s in their Premier League 2 match with Middlesbrough this Monday night.
The former Manchester United and Sunderland defender has been with the club all summer, but has been sidelined with a calf niggle. However having trained for the past week, he will feature as a trialist at the County Ground.
"Wes will play tonight, he'll start the game against Middlesbrough at Leyland," revealed Coyle.
"We are hopeful that he will get 60 minutes in the game and build up. He's trained for the last ten days or so and has trained very well.
"We know he's an outstanding player, he's had an issue with his calf which has meant he has been stop-start, but he's had a period of time without any negative reaction to that so hopefully he'll play an hour or so tonight and move forward from there."
Coyle and his backroom staff will be interested observers at the Lancs FA, and the Rovers boss has challenged the younger players to follow in the footsteps of Scott Wharton who made his senior debut on Saturday.
"I would hope they look at that and think we have a manager and a club that is prepared to give young players that opportunity as Blackburn Rovers have done," he added.
"You look at some of the terrific talent that have come through the club year after year, and I would hope the would see that if they stick to their work and show a good attitude, good ability and quality on the ball then they'll be in contention of being added to the squad.
"We'll all be there tonight, everyone of my staff, because it is important that they see us at those games knowing that we are looking because we have a real vested interest in seeing those young players progress."
Season ticket holders can see tonight's match at Leyland for free on production of their season ticket cards. General admission prices are £3 for Adults and £1 for Concessions.
Kick-off at the County Ground is at 7pm.
