Whilst boss Owen Coyle felt there was little in the way of good news from the opening day loss to Norwich City, the performances of three of the summer signings did provide some cheer.
Gordon Greer, Anthony Stokes and Jack Byrne all impressed in their first outings for the club, something the manager hopes will bode well for the future.
"I think it is fair to say that they did very well but I still think there is more to come from them," said the Rovers boss.
"Gordon Greer had only played two 45 minutes this summer, but when he stepped in he showed he is an important player. He's a leader, he's an organiser, he's comfortable with the ball, and we think he's got a part to play.
"Stokes has shown, not only with his goal, but I thought his general play in everything, that he looked sharp.
"Whilst Byrne is terrific passer of the ball, he's a very talented young player, and again what he will need going forward is games and learning the other side of it, learning to work off the ball, because he is very talented on it.
"So there were some positives, there are good pieces at the club."
Rovers are back in action this Tuesday night when they face Mansfield in the 1st round of the EFL Cup.
