The hallmarks of a tricky first round tie

Boss Owen Coyle knows that his teams' attitude has to be spot on when they take on Mansfield Town in the first round of the EFL Cup this Tuesday night.

Rovers visit the One Call Stadium for the first time in 36 years looking to avoid a cup shock against the League Two side.

The manager knows that if the players underestimate their opponents then they could be in for an uncomfortable evening, something he is obviously keen to avoid.

"Every cup tie you play in has the hallmarks of a tricky cup tie," said Coyle.

"When all is said and done it is an important cup-tie because every game, regardless who you play, whether you are home or away, or regardless of what competition, it is a tough game.

"I've always loved cup competitions as a player and as a manger, and it gives us an opportunity to go and win a tough game at Mansfield who did very well at the weekend away at Newport.

"They scored late on to win that game so they'll be feeling good about themselves, have a good confidence about them, and it will be a good atmosphere with them being at home. So I think it is a great game for us to go and look to win and to get a cup run going in conjunction with the league form.

"So of course people will look and see that Mansfield have won well at the weekend away from home, Blackburn Rovers are a big scalp, they'll be up for the game, and so they should be.

"So we have to make sure that our attitude is spot on, our work rate, and we bring our quality then we know we can go and win the game. But it will be a tough game as they all are."

Rovers fans are reminded that there are NO SALES ON THE DAY at the One Call Stadium. Tickets will go off sale at Ewood Park at 2pm. Prices are: Adults £10, Seniors 60+ £5 and Juniors 16 & Under £5. Call 01254 372000 for further information.
