Strong squad for Stags clash

Owen Coyle could hand Craig Conway and Stephen Hendrie their first starts of the season when Rovers take on Mansfield Town on Tuesday night.

The Scottish duo were both unused substitutes in Saturday's loss to Norwich City, but the Rovers boss could use tomorrow's EFL 1st round clash for the pair to get some minutes under their belts.

Rovers will be without Elliott Ward who went over on his ankle early in the match at Ewood, and Elliott Bennett who has a tight hamstring. Whilst Corry Evans also remains absent with a groin strain.

But despite those absentees the manager insists it will be a strong squad that will travel to take on the Stags tomorrow evening.

"I think it is fair to say that there will be one or two that we will bring in tomorrow that need to catch up with their match fitness and match sharpness," said the Rovers boss.

"Craig Conway being one, Stephen Hendrie possibly as well because he missed a bit of the pre-season.

"But within that, because of the numbers that we have, there won't be too many changes in terms of strength from what I believe will be a strong team.

"We think we've got some very good players, we didn't enjoy the weekend, but now it gives us a chance to get us up and running. To win a tough cup tie and get ourselves ready for another important league game on Saturday.

"Elliott Ward and Elliott Bennett both had injures from Saturday so they'll miss out tomorrow night. They are just ongoing, ones that we'll have to assess on a daily basis.

"Elliott Ward injured his ankle at the outset of the game, whilst Elliott Bennett felt his hamstring getting tighter as the first half went on.

"With Corry it is a bit of frustration as I think he played through the Euros with the ongoing niggle. He had an injection last week to help it settle down and get him back because he's a very good player who can play a big part for us.

"We aren't particularly blessed by great numbers so we have to make sure that we take care of them when they pick up those little knocks and try and get them back as quickly as we can."
