Rovers were saddened to learn of the passing of former defender Neil Wilkinson, who died on Tuesday age 61.

The Blackburn-born right-back made 38 appearances for his hometown team in the 1970s, winning the Third Division title in 1974-75.

He left Ewood Park in 1977 to join Cape Town in South Africa, before returning to England where he had spells with Port Vale and Crewe Alexandra.

Our sincere condolences go out to Neil’s family and friends at this sad time.
