There will be a record number of players in Blackburn Rovers Community Trust's expanded football and futsal squad for 2016/17 as students clamour to enrol on the exciting BTEC course.
The 'futsal scholarship', as it has been colloquially known in recent seasons, is a combined education and sports mix, allowing students to undertake a BTEC in Sport at Level 1 & 3 alongside weekly matches, representing Blackburn Rovers in the famous blue and white halves.
In previous seasons, the games have all been part of the EFL Trust Futsal League, but now there are enough recruits for the new season to be able to run an 11-a-side team with a regular game programme alongside the futsal fixtures.
With GCSE results day taking place in a fortnight's time, there is still an opportunity for a handful of additional players to become late additions to the squad of over 40 players so far, which includes a mix of male and female recruits, thanks to the inclusive nature of futsal.
Chris McGrail, head of futsal and school sport at the Community Trust, is enthused by the high take-up and is looking forward to bringing in even more youngsters. He explained:
"This is a great opportunity for anyone aged 16 or 17 who hasn't committed to what they want to do for the new academic year, or is maybe having second thoughts about the choice of educational route they've made.
"The lure of being able to say that you play for one of the country's most iconic clubs is a brilliant draw alongside a BTEC programme that is delivered by great staff in excellent surroundings at Ewood Park.
"I'm excited that we're going to have record numbers joining us in September and it's never too late to sign up if the idea appeals to you."
A recruitment centre will be in place throughout the whole of GCSE results day, Thursday 25th August, in the Darwen End at Ewood Park. Please contact email@example.com
