Owen Coyle praised his side's spirit and character after defeating Crewe Alexandra 4-3 after extra-time at Ewood Park.
Rovers had to come from two goals down and then suffer the agony of conceding an injury-time equaliser, but finally prevailed by the odd goal in seven.
Whilst disappointed with the manner of the goals conceded, the Rovers boss was delighted to eventually overcome their tricky opponents to book their place in Wednesday night's third round draw.
"We gave ourselves a lot to do in coming back from 2-0 down," Coyle told Radio Rovers.
"We started the game reasonably well but then the boy scores a wonder goal.
"We found our way back in had three or four great chances to get the equaliser, but then we make an error, David Raya made two very good saves in the second half, but he knows that one shouldn't have been spilt and we find ourselves 2-0 down.
"But the players picked theselves up and got it to 3-2 with some good play and some good goals. Then obviously we've given away a very sloppy goal when a poor header defensively has cost us.
"We didn't want extra-time, but again we showed good character and scored another very good goal and had other chances to put the game to bed.
"When all is said and done there is never an easy game, particularly in cup competitions, they are always tricky games and you are on a hiding to nothing.
"We had to stand up and be counted. We were disappointed with the manner in which we lost the goals but I thought there was a lot to be positive about in terms of the character they showed and the desire."
