Rovers will be away to Championship rivals Leeds United in the third round of the EFL Cup.
The tie will take place at Elland Road during the week commencing Monday September 19th.
Owen Coyle’s side secured their place in the draw courtesy of a dramatic 4-3 victory over Crewe Alexandra at Ewood Park on Tuesday night.
Rovers overcame a two-goal deficit to lead 3-2 late on, only for the League Two side to send the tie into extra-time with a 93rd-minute equaliser. However, Shane Duffy, who also scored in Rovers’ first round victory away to Mansfield, popped up with the winner.
Leeds needed penalties to beat Fleetwood Town in round one, before winning 1-0 away at League Two side Luton Town on Tuesday night.
Goals from Craig Conway - after just 17 seconds - and Jordan Rhodes saw Rovers win 2-0 at Elland Road in last season’s league encounter between the two teams.
The last League Cup meeting between the sides took place in October 2005, when second-half strikes from Brett Emerton, Paul Dickov and Lucas Neill saw Rovers defeat 10-man Leeds 3-0 at Ewood Park.
