Fresh faces to take on Crewe

23 August 2016

Boss Owen Coyle will freshen up his starting eleven for this evening's EFL second round tie with Crewe Alexandra.

The manager has confirmed that the likes of David Raya, Anthony Stokes and Liam Feeney will all start tonight's tie at Ewood Park, whilst Shane Duffy, available after serving his one-match ban, could start alongside weekend debutant Scott Wharton.

Coyle has laid down the challenge for those coming into the side this evening that there are places up for grabs, and that those who impress could keep their spot for Saturday's home match against Fulham.

"We are going to bring in four or five to freshen it up and give some game time to the ones that need it," revealed the Rovers boss.

"So that is an opportunity for them to bring that energy and desire to show that they want to be in the team.

"I think it is important that whenever you get a chance that you are ready to show that you want to be in that starting XI for Fulham at the weekend.

"David Raya is due a game, so he'll start the match, Anthony Stokes started on the bench the other day, he'll start, Liam Feeney will also start.

"Shane Duffy had a few days off to have some family time, but he's come back in with a big smile on his face ready to work hard which is great. So hopefully that time has helped and he comes into consideration.

"Scott Wharton will play again, Jack Doyle, Connor Mahoney they'll be in the 18, so it is an opportunity to see some of the young players as well.

"So boys like that have the opportunity to say look at me and pick me in your team, so the onus on them is to go and deliver on that.

"It is a great cup tie and one that we are looking forward to."
