Development squad boss Damien Johnson was delighted with his side's performance despite slipping to a narrow 1-0 loss in their opening Checkatrade Trophy group match at Fleetwood.
A goal on the stroke of half-time from Devante Cole settled the match in the League One side's favour, but Rovers, featuring a squad with no-one above the age of 20 gave them a real run for their money.
Johnson felt the young Rovers could be rightly proud of the way they played at Highbury Stadium, with the inability to take their chances letting them down.
"We are disappointed to lose the game but of the performance we couldn't have asked any more from the players," Johnson told Rovers PlayerHD.
"Off the ball our shape was really good, they worked hard for each other, and showed real quality on the ball and caused them problems.
"The only criticism is we didn't score, we didn't take one of our chances and at his level you get punished for a little lapse of concentration.
"But individually, and as a team, I thought the lads were outstanding."
The development squad's next group match in the Checkatrade Trophy sees the play Carlisle United at Brunton Park on Tuesday October 4th.
