Craig Conway believes the arrival of fellow Scot Gordon Greer is a great addition to the squad.
Conway, who was a team-mate of Greers at Brighton and with Scotland, feels Rovers have added a leader and a consumate professional to their ranks.
The defender spent two seasons at Ewood Park as a youngster, but returns some 15 years later as one of the experienced members of the squad, something Conway feels will be beneficial to everyone at the club.
"He's a top professional," said Conway. "I played with him for Scotland and at Brighton when I was on loan there and I cannot speak highly enough of him.
"He is a leader on the park, he speaks really well, and he demands high standards as well.
"I was really impressed with him when I played with him so I think it's a really good signing for us because I think we needed someone like that.
"He's got vast experience and he's an international player as well and that can only be a good for us. I also think he'll help the younger lads like Scott Wharton, Tyler Magloire and the other young defenders coming through the ranks. He will be brilliant for them.
"We've also got the experience of Wardy - and Duffy's not short on experience either. He's but he's an international player who has played at the highest level.
"So it will be really good for the defenders, but the team as well."
Rovers kick off the 2016-17 season this Saturday when Norwich City visit Ewood Park.
