Owen Coyle felt the fans did everything that they could to show their support despite the result on Saturday.
The Rovers boss was delighted with the backing that the players received during the opening day defeat by Norwich, and only wishes that the team could have given the fans something to cheer about.
"I've got to say I thought the fans were terrific on Saturday in getting behind the team," said the manager.
"It was a long weekend for every one of us and it will have been for those fans that worked hard all week, looking forward to the opening day of the season.
"Given the level of backing that we had I was disappointed that we didn't get to that level to give them what we would have hoped.
"So that is what we have to do now, we have to motivate ourselves to push forward to try and go and win games to put a smile on the faces of the Blackburn Rovers fans, because I felt that they kept with the team throughout the game and it was great to see that.
"For them to keep supporting us, as horrible as a game as it was for them, was fantastic. They were there, backing their team to the hilt, and you can't ask any more than that."
Rovers are back in action this Tuesday night when they face Mansfield in the 1st round of the EFL Cup.
