Hectic but enjoyable

Whilst most of the Rovers first team squad enjoyed a break from football this past fortnight, Shane Duffy enjoyed starring on the international stage.

After a gap of almost two years, the popular defender was back on duty with Ireland, earning his second cap in a 1-0 win over Switzerland.

After scoring the winner for Rovers against Brentford last time out in the league, Duffy followed that up by claiming an assist and a clean sheet in a man-of-the-match performance in Dublin to cap a fine couple of weeks for the defender.

"It has been enjoyable," Duffy told Rovers PlayerHD. "It was hectic the first week with the game, it was good.

"It was a good start in the game for me, I think it was my first touch and I set up the goal so it eased me in. The game went well, they are a good team and had most of the ball, so we had to defend quite a lot and it probably worked out to my advantage."

With the Euros coming up quickly in the summer, the defender knows that he needs to maintain his performances for his club before he can think about a place in the Irish squad.

And with a host of defensive options available to Ireland boss Martin O'Neill, Duffy insists that he isn't a certainty to make the plane to France.

"I'll keep trying to play well for Blackburn and you never know," he added. "I've shown what I could do in the last game so if he likes me, he likes me. There are a few to get ahead of, but we'll see what happens in the summer.

"Game by game I'll try to improve myself, I've got a lot to do. I can take confidence from going away with Ireland, so hopefully now I'm back here I can play well. Personally it has gone well, I'm improving all the time and hopefully I can keep doing it.

"A lot of people keep asking me but it is a tough squad to get in in my position and I've only played one game so I can't really demand anything."

Duffy and Rovers are back in action this Saturday lunchtime when they take on Preston North End in the 12.30pm kick-off.
