Paul Lambert was delighted with the performance of Connor Mahoney in last night's 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.
The Rovers boss handed the Blackburn-born attacker his first league start, some two years after his debut as a 16-year-old in the FA Cup against Manchester City.
Mahoney put in a lively display at the City Ground, and the Rovers boss knows that the next step for the forward is to ensure that he remains part of the first team picture.
"Connor making his league debut was a big plus for us," Lambert told Rovers PlayerHD.
"He has got ability, and, especially in the first half, I thought he was excellent.
"I knew he could handle it, he's not a shy lad and he's a good footballer. He plays with no fear and that is important for young players.
"I've seen a lot of great kids playing football with ability and Mahoney is one of the best ones.
"He'll now want more of it, he'll want more and will want to try and stay in the team and that should be his attitude from now on in. You don't want to go back to the Under-21s, you want to play at this level.
"That is the best advice that I would give him."
Mahoney and Rovers are back in action at Ewood Park this Saturday when Bristol City are the visitors.
Tickets are on open sale priced from £18 for Adults, £12 Seniors and 18-21 year-olds, and from £7 for Under-17s.
