Damien Johnson believes playing alongside experienced pros can only help the development of his Under-21 squad.
Johnson felt the inclusion of the likes of Chris Taylor, David Raya and Sacha Petshi in Monday night's 3-0 win over Brighton really assisted the team and hopes that his young side learn from the senior stars to help improve their game.
"The first team lads that came in really helped a lot and it was a great experience for our younger lads to play along side them," said the Under-21s lead coach.
"They showed what terrific pros they are, Chris Taylor has been out for a long time but it is testament to the type of pro he is that he was able to last that length of time. It was a terrific all-round midfield display from him.
"We've got a lot of good young midfield players at the club and it is vitally important that they learn from the likes of Chris Taylor and Sacha Petshi.
"That is the standard that is needed to kick on at this club, it is the type of performance that the gaffer demands at this level.
"So it was a great experience for the young lads."
