Loan latest: Preston on target as Ayr stay top

6 October 2015

Jordan Preston was back amongst the goals on an eventful weekend for those Rovers players out on loan.

The 19-year-old striker notched his fourth goal in eight outings for Ayr United as the  Scottish League One side defeated Cowdenbeath 5-0 to remain top of the table.

Preston got the home side off to a sensational start with a goal after just 28 seconds, with Alan Forrest doubling Ayr's advantage on 19 minutes.

Gerry McLauchlan and Brian Gilmour added further strikes before Preston was replaced just past the hour, but there was still time for Craig Moore to add a 5th to complete the comprehensive win.

Also on the winning side this weekend were Salford City who defeated Frickley Athletic 1-0 at the Westfield Lane Stadium.

Lewis Hardcastle impressed once more in the Ammies midfield, playing the full match as a first half goal from Jordan Hume was enough to give the visitors all three points, despite ending the match with only nine men after two second half sendings off.

Salford's sixth win from six away games sees them move up to fourth in the Evo-Stik League Northern Premier Division.

Both Clitheroe and Bamber Bridge were on FA Trophy duty on Saturday, but both sides failed to progress.

Callum Hendry played the full match for Clitheroe but they went down 2-1 to ten-man Stocksbridge Park Steels at Shawbridge, whilst Sam Joel was a second half substitute as Bamber Bridge lost 2-0 to Burscough in match that saw both sides miss a penalty and get a man sent off.
