Rovers' Under-21s return to league action this Monday night when they take on Aston Villa.
Damien Johnson's side are in fine form at the moment having won four of their last five league games and progressed through to the last 16 of the U21 Premier League Cup.
Tonight's match at Villa Park gives the development squad the chance to leapfrog their opponents in the table. Currently in 7th place, they sit a point behind 5th placed Villa having played a game less.
The two sides met on three occasions last season. Twice in the league Rovers were to rue late goals as they drew 1-1 at Leigh Sports Village back in August, whilst in the return fixture at Burton a stoppage time goal saw Villa win 1-0.
Rovers then faced them on their way to the final of the Premier League Cup. Getting the better of Villa in an entertaining 3-2 win. Connor Mahoney, Dean Rittenberg and Bradley Bauress with the goals for the home side.
David Raya, Sacha Petshi and Darragh Lenihan all get a runout for the Under-21s this evening in what is an otherwise youthful squad.
Academy central defender Charley Doyle is handed his debut at this level, whilst the bench sees Under-18 team-mates Tre Pemberton and Joe Rankin-Costello.
ROVERS: Raya, Nyambe, J. Doyle, Lenihan, C. Doyle, Wharton (c), Mahoney, Petshi, Mansell, Joel, Green.
Subs: Tomlinson, Crump (GK), Carson, Rankin-Costello, Pemberton.
