Paul Lambert is relishing the prospect of a fantastic occasion for his first game in charge on Saturday.

Rovers make the short journey to Deepdale to take on near-neighbours Preston North End in what promises to be a mouthwatering opening match for the new boss.

Lambert is no stranger to a derby encounter, having savoured them as both player and manager, so he is certainly looking forward to this weekend's game.

"Any game that we were going to play on Saturday was always going to be a little bit hyped up because of what has happened during the week," said Lambert.

"When you see the atmosphere you know that you are in a big game, the atmosphere generates that feeling.

"I've been lucky enough to play in some huge ones and they mean so much to the people off the pitch and this one will be no different.

"The atmosphere will be fantastic at Preston so it is a game that we want to go on the front foot and win.

"We'll have a massive following who will get right behind the side so it is up to us to give them something back.

"It is okay saying we need the fans, but we've got to give them something, and that is what we will try to do."
