Take the good work in training into Saturday

New Rovers boss Paul Lambert has been impressed with the work that the squad have put in in training this week, but knows that it will count for nothing if they don't perform at Deepdale tomorrow.

The new-look backroom staff have worked the players hard in preparation for the match against Preston North End, a game which Lambert believes is the perfect one to start his managerial reign with.

"As a group they have all stepped up to the plate this week, but it is doing it over 40-odd games, not for one or two weeks," said Lambert.

"Every single week you've got to perform and train the way they are training now. To keep that standard of training and take it into games.

"It is our first game and it is a big game. There'll be a big crowd so the challenge is to overcome the mental side of it and physically be ready for it - which we will.

"It is a great game for us to go and play, and it is a great game for us to try and win.

"We know they are a hard side but if we go on the front foot and if we can do what we've seen in training this week then with a bit of luck we'll hopefully get the result."
