Toon test for U21s

5 May 2015

Rovers Under-21s will be out to extend their recent run of results when they take on Newcastle United at St. James' Park this evening.

Eric Kinder's young side have won on each their last three league outings and will look to make that four in their final away game of the season.

The development squad have already triumphed at St. James' Park this season, knocking out the Magpies in the U21 Premier League Cup on their way to the final.

However it was Newcastle who had the upper hand when the two sides met at Leigh Sports Village back in December, the visitors running out 3-1 winners.

Kinder has kept faith with the same squad of youngsters for this evening's match, with Ryan Nyambe, who was an unused substitute in the first team's 3-2 win over Ipswich Town, returning to the side, whilst Modou Cham starts after an injury lay-off.

With David Raya in action for the seniors at the weekend, Ryan Crump is once again in goal. David Carson, who scored the winner in the 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out, captains the side.

ROVERS: Crump, Nyambe, Doyle, Thomson, Lavelle, Jones, Mahoney, Bauress, Rittenberg, Carson (c), Cham.

Subs: Mansell, Fisher, Hardcastle, Tanner, Wharton.

Kick-off at St. James' Park is at 7.00pm. Admission prices are £3 adults and £1 for concessions.
