Rovers face the Royals once more

Rovers Under-21s' hectic schedule continues with a trip to take on Reading this Friday night.

The two sides met just eight days ago when Eric Kinder's side knocked the Royals out of the U21 Premier League Cup at the semi-final stage.

Sam Lavelle gave Rovers a first half lead before Tariqe Fosu equalised for the visitors at Leigh Sports Village.

Rovers won the tie after extra-time thanks to a penalty from Bradley Bauress after Lewis Mansell had been felled.

Reading had the better of Rovers when the two sides met in the league earlier this season. Dominic Samuel scoring the only goal of the game for the visitors in a 1-0 win at Ewood Park.

With the first team in FA Cup action this Sunday, Kinder has taken another young side south for this evening's match with David Carson, Ryan Nyambe and Connor Thomson returning to the squad after being rested on Monday.

ROVERS: Raya, Nyambe, Edgar, Carson (c), Lavelle, Daly, Thomson, Bauress, Mansell, Green, Mahoney.

Subs: Rittenberg, Crump, Tanner, Hardcastle, Jones.

Kick-off at Basingstoke is at 7.00pm.

• Meanwhile Rovers' will take on Southampton in the final of the U21 Premier League Cup after the Saints defeated Derby County 4-2 at St. Mary's last night. The final will be played over two legs, dates and venues will be confirmed in due course.
