High praise for Henley

Manager Gary Bowyer has been delighted with the performances of Adam Henley in recent weeks.

The young full back had been in and out of the side for the majority of the season, but his return to the starting line-up in Rovers' last four outings has coincided with the side's upturn in form with three clean sheets.

As Henley and Rovers prepare to face Charlton Athletic at the Valley this Saturday afternoon, boss Bowyer has been impressed with the way the Welsh Under-21 international has slotted back into the side.

"I think his form at the moment is first class," Bowyer told Rovers Player. "He looks really fresh and really strong and I think it is terrific that he is playing the level that he's playing at.

"He's getting better with the ball, but as a 1v1 defender his pace is fantastic, the way he tightens up the opposition winger is first class and he is getting better all the time."

After breaking into the first team at the age of 17, the former Academy graduate hasn't managed to get a consistent run in the side due to regular hamstring problems.

But Bowyer hopes that Henley is over those now, having come back stronger than ever.

The manager added: "You certainly learn about yourself in those days but he stayed strong. He's better for that experience.

"Sometimes you have to go through a little bit of a setback to make you even more determined and he's certainly done that.

"You are always concerned because of the type of injury it was, but fair play to him, he stuck at it and worked ever so hard with the medical team and he looks really strong and powerful as a result of the time out.

"His energy levels are fantastic and his pace is a major asset, both for his defending and attacking. I think his attacking side is getting better as well."

Henley and his Rovers team-mates are in action at the Valley this afternoon when Rovers take on Charlton Athletic.
