Gary Bowyer couldn't hide his delight as Rovers made it three league wins in a row thanks to a superb 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic.

A fantastic start from the visitors saw them race into a two-goal lead at the Valley after Jordan Rhodes' opener was quickly followed by a Craig Conway strike.

And although the hosts pulled a goal back from the penalty spot just before the hour mark, it was the patched up Rovers side who grabbed the all-important next goal as Rhodes made it 3-1.

Rovers, who had to battle hard throughout, could have scored further goals in the closing stages, but nevertheless the manager was ecstatic at the final whistle.

"On Wednesday night I said the win against Bolton was the best of our season but that has bettered it today," said Bowyer after the game.

"To come away after a gruelling two weeks and produce that level of performance, to race into a two-goal lead was fantastic from the players.

"We had to stand firm at times as we knew that Charlton would have a spell but we withstood that and went down the other end and could have won by more to be honest."

It was a real triumph over adversity as Rovers lost Craig Conway in the first half and then Lee Williamson and Doneil Henry to injury in the second. With Bowyer delighted with the way the side took on the challenge to secure the victory.

"I think there is only two or three players that have played one position. Everybody else has had to play more then one position," he added.

"You had Chris Brown and Jordan Rhodes filling in on the flanks, Ben Marshall has played right wing, left wing and right back, Tommy Spurr has played left back and centre back, they've done tremendous everyone of them.

"It was another massive effort from them, we were disrupted by the injuries but we didn't let that stop us."

Rovers return to Ewood Park this Tuesday night when Brentford are the visitors for the 7.45pm kick-off.

Tickets are on open sale priced from £12 Adults, from £9 Seniors/Students and from £5 for Juniors aged 16 and under.
