A resolute performance

2 March 2015

Jason Steele was delighted to play his part as Rovers earned a worthy point against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Rovers goalkeeper made three key saves as the kept their first clean sheet on their travels since the end of September.

Steele knows that clean sheets have been few and far between this season, but hopes the weekend shut out can be the first of many in 2015.

"To come away from home against one of the best teams in the league and get a result we are obviously delighted about it," said the stopper.

"We all know how hard the league is and how hard it is to keep a clean sheet in the league and we've tried to address that.

"There have been many games where we've deserved clean sheets and maybe not got them by a little bit of bad luck or a good goal here and there but we are delighted to get the clean sheet and it should stand us in good stead for Wednesday."

Injuries to Shane Duffy and Grant Hanley in the build-up to the match meant that Steele had a much-changed back four in front of him, but the keeper felt that the players performed brilliantly.

"I must say the lads were absolutely fantastic, to a man they worked ever so hard and I'm equally as pleased for everyone involved to get a clean sheet," added Steele.

"The lads were solid, a clean sheet starts up front and Rudy worked his socks off all game, the poor guy running backwards and forwards.

"The two boys playing centre half were fantastic, young Adam was brilliant at right back and obviously Olss is consistently fantastic.

"I think it was a resolute performance from the whole team, we dug in at times but then I also thought we were a threat on the break and we could have nicked it at the end.

"We've just got to dig in and the whole club has got to stick together and hopefully we can push on.

"We've got a few games to look forward to now and you never know what can happen."

Rovers are back in action this Wednesday night when they face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough - kick-off 7.45pm.
