Rovers have been drawn at home to League One new boys Shrewsbury Town in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The tie with the Shrews, who finished runners-up in League Two last season, will take place at Ewood Park week commencing Monday August 10th.

The two teams last met in the competition back in 1993-94, when Rovers triumphed 4-3 after extra-time in a third round replay at Gay Meadow thanks to goals from Mike Newell (2), David May and Ian Pearce, after the game at Ewood had ended goalless.

Whilst Rovers' League Cup campaign was short-lived last season, losing at home to Scunthorpe in the first round, Shrewsbury enjoyed an impressive cup run, claiming the scalps of Blackpool, Leicester and Norwich (all 1-0), before suffering a slender 2-1 defeat at home to eventual winners Chelsea.
