Darragh Lenihan captained the Republic of Ireland in their Under-21 friendly match with England on Friday afternoon.
After breaking into the Rovers first team at the end of the season, the versatile Irishman had the honour of leading his country at St. George's Park, but the visitors were on the end of a 3-1 defeat to a strong Three Lions side.
Tom Carroll opened the scoring after just five minutes, with Saido Berahino doubling England's advantage at the midway point of the first half.
A third followed before the break as Nathaniel Chalobah got on the score sheet.
Ireland rallied in the second half with Sean Long notching on 62 minutes, but it proved to be mere consolation.
Lenihan played the full match for the Irish in the centre defence.
