Rovers and Blackpool's Under-18s played out an entertaining 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Under sunny skies at Brockhall the two young sides showed plenty of attacking endeavour as they shared the spoils.
Rovers opened the scoring in the first half thanks to Olly Mehew's fine strike, but the Seasiders levelled in the second half from the penalty spot.
Both sides had opportunities to win the game, but a draw was the fair result.
It was the home side who started the brighter with an early chance falling Tyler Magloire. From Stuart Callaway's 11th minute free-kick, the defender stretched to make the connection but the ball flashed past the wrong side of the upright.
Blackpool responded with a chance of their own on the break, but fired narrowly wide. Before a close-range header went straight into the arms of Rovers keeper Ben Ascroft.
The exciting opening to the match continued with Mehew denied by the fingertips of the Blackpool goalkeeper, as he whistled an effort towards goal. Then on 20 minutes the Rovers striker was denied once more with a shot that was tipped over the bar.
Four minutes later Mehew would get the reward his attacking play deserved with the opening goal. A strong forward run by right winger Alex Curran saw the ball centred, Callaway dummied and Mehew swept the ball home into the corner of the net.
The game was then disrupted for ten minutes due to an injury to a Blackpool player. The young attacker went down innocuously and after treatment was stretchered off.
After no further first half chances, it was the Seasiders who came out the stronger of the two sides in the second half.
And they got back on level terms on 53 minutes from the penalty spot after Magloire was adjudged to have fouled his man just inside the area. The Pool midfielder made no mistake from 12-yards to make it 1-1.
The Tangerines then forced Ascroft into making a fine save, before another attack saw a header placed just wide.
Rovers responded with chances of their own. Half-time substitutes Mason Fawns and John Buckley both going close, but neither side would threaten the scoreline further as the game ended all square.
The Academy are next in action on Saturday when they face Preston North End at Brockhall - kick-off 10.30am. Supporters should note that the pre-season friendly against Kendal Town will now no longer go ahead.
