Goals from trialist Nathan Delfouneso and Craig Conway secured a comfortable 2-0 pre-season victory over Oldham Athletic.

After a cagey first-half, Rovers sprang into life in the second following the introduction of the lively Delfouneso.

The trialist opened the scoring with a glancing header from Conway's free-kick just before the hour mark, before the Scot got in on the act himself with an exquisite left-footed effort six minutes from time.

The match was almost delayed due to some unexpected visitors - a swarm of bees! - but it was manager Gary Bowyer who was buzzing following his side's second-half display.

Rovers started the match with a make-shift centre forward in John O'Sullivan, in the absence of injured trio Jordan Rhodes, Rudy Gestede and Chris Brown.

Ben Marshall was missing through illness, whilst the match came too soon for fellow midfielder Corry Evans.

A neat and tidy Oldham outfit had the better of the opening exchanges without ever really testing Jason Steele in the Rovers goal.

The first chance of the match fell to the home side, but former Rover Gavin Gunning headed narrowly wide from a dangerous corner.

Oldham's Connor Brown took aim after shaking off Lee Williamson, but fired a wild left-footed shot over Steele's bar.

Rovers first real effort of the afternoon went to Shane Duffy, who headed well over from Markus Olsson's cross from the left.

Delfouneso was introduced at the break and quickly made an impact on the game.

The former Blackpool frontman lost his marker in the box shortly before the hour mark and glanced a header past David Cornell from Conway's freekick.

Delfouneso was almost on the scoresheet again ten minutes later when he headed another dangerous Conway free-kick from the left narrowly wide.

George Green lifted a freekick over the Rovers wall from 25 yards for the home side, but it was comfortable for substitute stopper Simon Eastwood.

Rovers wrapped up the victory when Conway found himself with space in the box after neat build up play before finding the top corner with a cool left-footed finish.
