Rovers Ladies kicked off their pre-season programme with a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Brighouse Town.
Gemma Donnelly’s side dominated the first half, twice hitting the woodwork and taking a deserved lead on 26 minutes thanks to Thea Mallett’s sweet left-foot strike.
Brighouse improved after the break and completed an impressive comeback with two goals in quick succession midway through the second half.
The hosts drew level on 68 minutes when Lyndsey Naden scored from a cleared corner and Louise Wardman sealed the win when through on goal just three minutes later.
“It was a useful run-out for the new girls and it enabled the management team to observe them in action,” said Donnelly.
“The whole point of pre-season is fitness and for the new players to gel, and this certainly served its purpose.
“Thanks to Brighouse for entertaining us for the second year running. It was another competitive fixture and on this occasion they were too strong for our young group.”
