A Rovers Ladies XI slipped to a narrow 3-2 defeat away to Leicester City.
Strong and physical, Leicester were also significantly more experienced than the Rovers youngsters and this was demonstrated on just two minutes when they took the lead.
Twenty minutes later, further naivety at the back cost Rovers a second goal and it remained 2-0 until half-time.
Despite the scoreline, Leicester weren’t having it all their own way, as Rovers enjoyed good spells of possession and looked threatening going forward, with the hosts unable on occasions to cope with their creativity.
Rovers got their reward within minutes of the restart, as Lynda Shepherd reduced the arrears.
The visitors’ fitness and desire to improve on their first-half performance meant that they were the far superior side in the second half, however Leicester added a third against the run of play.
Rovers responded almost immediately, through Danielle Sheen, and despite it being one-way traffic towards the Leicester goal, they were just unable to force an equaliser.
