Craig Conway has one main goal in mind this season - scoring more goals.
Since arriving at Ewood Park from Cardiff City 18 months ago, the Scotland star has been Rovers’ chief creator of goals, claiming over 10 assists in each of the past two seasons.
Now, the 30-year-old is targeting adding more goals to his game too.
“Definitely, that’s one thing,” said Conway, who has scored four goals in each of Rovers’ last two campaigns.
“Assists have probably never been a problem, but it’s scoring goals. Obviously I added a few towards the end of the season, but I definitely think I should be getting up close to 10.
“That’s a lot of goals for a midfielder, but I should be aiming for that. The likes of Ben (Marshall) got seven last year. There’s a lot of games, so hopefully I can add one or two more, if not more.”
Deadly strike duo Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede netted 41 league goals between them last season, but Conway insists the rest of the team will need to contribute more to the goals column if Rovers are to make a push for promotion.
“If you look at the teams that went up - Watford and Bournemouth - they had players who scored a lot of goals, but I think they spread it a lot more throughout their squad as well,” added the midfield ace.
“We heavily relied on Jordan (Rhodes) and Rudy (Gestede) last year, scoring the goals, and I think you’ve got to take responsibility and score more goals.
“Obviously you’ve got another team trying to stop you from scoring goals, so it’s not as easy as what it sounds, but I think we definitely need to add more goals among the squad.”
