Rovers' Under-21s suffered their first pre-season defeat on Tuesday evening as they went down 2-1 to Bamber Bridge.
After healthy wins over Burscough and Knaresborough Town, Damien Johnson's young side were unable to make it a hat-trick of victories at Irongate.
It was the Evo-Stick Division One North side who started strongly, with Rovers goalkeeper Andy Fisher called into action after just four minutes. The young stopper getting his fingertips to a Michael Muscat shot from a corner to turn the ball off the crossbar and over.
Rovers would go onto strike the woodwork themselves when a Devarn Green cross from the left was met on the volley by Connor Thomson, but his shot slammed against the angle.
However nine minutes before the break it was the home side who grabbed the all-important opening goal.
Winger Regan Linney cut in from the right to drill a shot goalwards, and although Fisher did well to block the effort, veteran striker, and former Rovers youngster, Brett Ormerod was on hand to fire home the rebound from close-range.
Leading at the break, Brig doubled their advantage five minutes into the second half.
Jamie Milligan's through ball split the Rovers' defence and Kieron Pickup arrived to slip the ball past the advancing Fisher.
Two minutes later and Rovers reduced arrears. Scott Wharton looping a header forward and Jordan Preston collected the pass before drilling a super shot past Lee Dovey in the Bamber Bridge goal.
Whilst Rovers pressed in the closing stages for an equaliser, they were left frustrated as the home side defended well to keep them at bay.
"Overall we did have chances," said U21 coach Damien Johnson. "But myself and John are disappointed with the performance and the boys are disappointed themselves.
"It certainly wasn't the standard of our previous performances."
"It is still pre-season and we are still working on things, but we are still disappointed."
