Gary Bowyer is delighted to see the team progressing in the right direction with the big kick-off just ten days away.

In their penultimate friendly of the summer his side were given an excellent test by a lively Bury team in the 1-1 draw at Gigg Lane.

After the Rovers were denied by excellent goalkeeping by Christian Walton and the woodwork, it was the Shakers who grabbed the lead at the midway point of the first half through summer arrival Tom Pope.

But Rovers responded well and deservedly drew level on 65 minutes thanks to a superb curling effort from 25-yards by Craig Conway, with the manager pleased with how the match went in terms of preparation for the new season.

"It was another good workout for us and another good 90 minutes under their belts," said Bowyer.

"You can certainly see from the weekend that we've stepped it up a level, both in terms of our tempo with and without the ball, and our fitness levels. The players are really looking sharp now.

"Obviously we are still missing forward players but again I thought Nathan Delfouneso showed up ever so well for us. He had a great chance in the first half where the goalie has made a hell of a save from him.

"I'm also pleased with the fact that we have come through the game unscathed with injuries."

Rovers are back in action this Saturday when they take on Wigan Athletic at Ewood Park - kick-off 3.00pm.

Tickets are priced at just £10 Adults, £5 Seniors, £5 18-21yrs and just £1 for Juniors aged 17 and under.
