Chris Taylor had an afternoon to remember as his two goals secured Rovers' place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Taylor scored in each half as Rovers brushed aside Charlton Athletic 2-1 at the Valley.
The midfielder hadn't started a match for Rovers since September, but he more than made his mark in what was an excellent team display against a fellow Championship outfit.
"The perfect way to start the year for myself and the team," said Taylor after the match.
"It couldn't have gone any better. We got off to the perfect start, they came back into the game, but within a few minutes we went 2-1 up and it killed the game.
"We could have put it to bed a couple of times, we were a touch unlucky and a little sloppy, but at the end of the day it is a really good win against a tough team.
"We really played some good stuff at times and possibly should have had a couple more goals."
The midfielder also had special word for the fans who made the long journey to support the team.
Just a week after Christmas, more than a thousand Roverites travelled to the Valley, their commitment rewarded with the win.
"The fans were fantastic," Taylor added. "They are fantastic all the time.
"They get behind the team and away from home today, with that long journey they showed up in their numbers and I can't thank them enough really for coming down."
Taylor and Rovers are back in action this Sunday when Wolverhampton Wanderers are the vistors to Ewood Park - kick-off 2.00pm.
Tickets are on open sale priced from £17 for Adults, from £11 for Seniors/Students and from £6 for Juniors under 17.
