Joint statement issued to Wigan and Rovers supporters ahead of the weekend’s game.
• Latics and Rovers supporters advised to arrive early for the Sky Bet Championship fixture at the DW Stadium on Saturday January 17 2015, kick off 3.00pm
• Supporters who purchase tickets at the DW Stadium may suffer delays at turnstiles
• Amnesty bins will be in place for incendiary devices.
Greater Manchester and Lancashire Police, along with Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers football clubs are advising supporters to arrive in good time when Latics welcome Rovers to the DW Stadium this weekend.
With the ability to purchase on the day for both teams, this could result in delays at the turnstiles and supporters are being advised to allow plenty of time when arriving at the stadium.
They are also being advised that their behaviour will be reflected in the reputation of Wigan Athletic Football Club and Blackburn Rovers Football Club and that any offences related to the use or possession of flares or smoke bombs, or general anti-social behaviour, could result in prosecution and/or sanctions imposed by the FA.
The club will have amnesty bins placed outside the stadium should any supporters be carrying incendiary devices.
PC Ashley Keyte, Wigan Athletic Football Intelligence Officer, said: “We are working closely with both clubs to ensure that the safety of the vast majority of well-behaved supporters of both Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers is the main priority, and that the day is not spoiled by the actions of a minority.”
