Spurr to step up his return

Tommy Spurr will get more game time under his belt when this evening he plays for the Under-21s against Aston Villa.

The Rovers defender played 65 minutes for the development squad last Monday night and he'll be aiming to extend that as he looks to return to full fitness at Leigh Sports Village in the Under-21 Premier League Cup.

Tonight's match also sees the return of several loan players, who all get a run out.

With loans for the first half of the season completed, David Raya, Anthony O'Connor, Jack O'Connell, John O'Sullivan and Jordan Slew all start this evening.

Eric Kinder's side were handed a bye for the previous round, whilst Villa beat local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 to advance to the last 16 stage.

The winners face an away date with Newcastle United in the quarter finals.

The two sides have already met at Leigh Sports Village in the league this season, Modou Cham gave Rovers the lead in the first half and they looked set for all three points until Jordan Graham scored a 93rd minute equaliser for the visitors as the match ended 1-1.
