Selection poser for Saturday

22 January 2015

Gary Bowyer has a near fully fit squad to select from for this Saturday's lunchtime clash with Swansea City.

The Rovers boss has a selection headache of the positive kind as they prepare to take on Premier League opposition at Ewood in the fourth round of the FA Cup - kick-off 12.45pm.

Tommy Spurr came through more minutes as the Under-21s defeated Newcastle United on Tuesday night, and he could come into contention for the cup tie.

The defender is yet to feature in a competitive match for the first team this season having been sidelined with a troublesome groin injury since pre-season.

"Touch wood everybody has done okay in training this week and we have no injuries," confirmed Bowyer.

"Tommy Spurr, we'll see how he is and assess him in training on Friday, but I certainly think he's done enough to make the squad and we'll just see whether that is on the bench or starting."

Another player who is available for selection once more is Rudy Gestede. The striker wasn't involved in last weekend's draw with Wigan, but he could feature against the Swans.

Bowyer added: "He's been back in training this week and has done ever so well, so at this moment in time goes into the squad on Saturday ready to be involved against Swansea.

"Rudy Gestede is a top player and a top pro and my admiration for him has grown over the last couple of days in terms of how he's handled it all.

"There is no problem whatsoever with Rudy in the squad. If he features on Saturday he'll be welcomed by myself - and I presume - the supporters as well."

The Rovers boss shuffled his pack in the previous round and could do so once more.

"Whoever gets the shirt will go out and give their best for Blackburn Rovers," added Bowyer.

"They all want to play, they are desperate to play, it is a shame that we can only put eleven out there.

"It hasn't been very often that we've been in this position where we've nearly got a fully fit squad."
