Rovers Under-18s completed the double over Stoke City to make it three league wins on the spin.
Clinical finishing proved to be the difference between the two teams, as goals from Sam Joel, Lewis Mansell and Modou Cham secured a 3-0 victory for Brian Carey’s side.
Rovers arrived at Brockhall on the back of impressive wins over Wolves and Everton, but it was Stoke who started the stronger, causing Rovers a few problems early on.
However, the hosts soon started to get to grips with the game and opened the scoring when they were on top.
Joel was on target when the two sides met earlier in the season, as Rovers recorded a 2-1 win, and the Academy top scorer broke the deadlock once again.
A cross from out wide landed at the forward’s feet and Joel dispatched his 11th goal of the campaign on the half-hour mark.
Stoke responded well and created a few more chances, but Rovers held firm until the break and doubled their lead midway through the second-half.
Substitute Mansell skipped past a couple of Stoke players on the break, before coolly slotting the ball under the keeper’s body.
Rovers picked Stoke off again moments later, as Cham completed the scoring 15 minutes from time with a fine finish in off the post.
Coach Carey said: “There’s been some good individual performances in the past few weeks, we just need to maintain that and keep going.
“There were quite a few chances at both ends, but the main difference was we took ours and they didn’t take theirs. We were more ruthless.
“It was a good game and we can learn a lot from playing against a diamond midfield and the problems that can cause.”
