Cup quest for U21s

20 January 2015

Rovers will be looking to book themselves a place in the last four of the Under-21 Cup this evening.

Eric Kinder's development squad take on their Newcastle United counterparts in the quarter-final at St. James' Park - kick-off 7.00pm.

Rovers reached this stage of the competition after defeating Aston Villa 3-2 a week ago, whilst the Magpies overcame West Ham United 4-1.

The two sides have already met this season at Leigh Sports Village with Newcastle running out 3-1 winners at the beginning of December.

Gael Bigirimana gave the visitors the lead, and although Sam Lavelle levelled for Rovers, further strikes from Callum Roberts and Jonathyn Quinn saw United claim victory.

This evening's squad is likely to be similar to the one that overcame Aston Villa, with Tommy Spurr expected to get more minutes under his belt as he continues his bid for full fitness.

Full team news will be confirmed later.

Kick-off at St. James' Park is at 7.00pm. Admission prices are £3 Adults, £1 Concessions.
