We are facing a quality side

Gary Bowyer is expecting another tough test of his side's credentials when they take on Stoke City at Ewood Park on Saturday.

After defeating Swansea City 3-1 in the fourth round of the competition, Rovers take on more Premier League opposition when Mark Hughes' side come to town.

The Rovers boss was in attendance at the Britannia Stadium on Wednesday night as the Potters lost to Manchester City but he didn't feel the scoreline was a true reflection on how the game panned out.

"I went and watched them against Manchester City and for the first half hour they totally dominated that game and 4-1 was very harsh on them," said Bowyer.

"They'll have a good following and the mentality of Mark Hughes and his staff is that they'll be wanting to win this game to try and get themselves on a run to Wembley."

Rovers faced Mark Hughes' side in their final pre-season friendly at the beginning of August, and whilst the 1-1 draw has no bearing on Saturday's fifth round tie, the boss believes it can gives the players the confidence to perform against another Premier League side.

Bowyer added: "That game did give us an insight into the quality of the squad that he's got because I think he played two teams at the time.

"We scored against them so that gives us a positive in a sense that we know we can score against a Premier League outfit."
