Defender Jack O’Connell has joined Rovers’ Championship rivals Brentford for an undisclosed fee.
The 20-year-old centre-half came through the ranks at Ewood Park, making his first team debut in August 2014 against Scunthorpe United in the Capital One Cup.
O’Connell had previously spent time on loan with League Two sides Rotherham United and York City, before joining Rochdale for the 2013-14 season, where he helped Dale clinch promotion to League One.
The England Under-19 international returned to Spotland last August, until the turn of the year, scoring three goals in 19 appearances for Keith Hill’s side.
He has signed a contract with the Bees, who currently sit fifth in the Championship, until the summer of 2018.
