Boss Gary Bowyer has confirmed that Jason Lowe is likely to be out for the rest of the season.

The Rovers midfielder will undergo an operation to get to the bottom of a troublesome foot injury that has plagued the player throughout this campaign.

Lowe sustained the injury in the pre-season match against Stoke City, but although he played on in the weeks following, he eventually succumbed to his injury at the end of August.

Lowe returned to action before Christmas but only lasted 50 minutes against Charlton Athletic, a second attempt at a return in January was more successful with six appearances but the injury flared up once more in the win over Rotherham United last week.

"He is going to be having an operation so that is a huge disappointment for the lad and for us as well," revealed Bowyer.

"Hopefully that will be a success and we can get him back. There is no rush, we'll put no timescale on it but if he was to make an appearance before the end of the season it would be very very late on.

"We'll adopt a sensible approach to it and just make sure that he comes back fit and ready. If he does make anything before the end of the season it would be a massive bonus but there's no pressure on him for that.

"He played with it for seven weeks as he did it in the Stoke game pre-season and he just thought it was just an irritation. When we actually scanned it that was the first time that we found a fracture.

"Again when he came back he never missed a training session with it, but that tells you a lot about the kid himself."

Lowe misses Saturday's match against Blackpool but you can be there.
