It was a Saturday afternoon of mixed emotions for Tommy Spurr on his return to action for Rovers.
Sidelined by a troublesome groin injury, the defender made his first start of the season in the 1-1 draw with Blackpool.
Whilst pleased to finally be back out on the Ewood Park turf, Spurr would have preferred to have marked his return with all three points.
"It would have been nice to get the win and come back into a winning side but it wasn't to be," the full back told Radio Rovers.
"We battled hard and created quite a few chances but didn't take them which cost us in the end."
It has been a tough ten months for the likeable defender. Spurr missed the last three games of last season and then sustained a similar groin injury during this pre-season.
The 27-year-old has been close to a return on a number of occasions only to receive setbacks along the way, so to finally make his first appearance of the season was a huge relief.
"It has been really hard," admitted Spurr. "It has been one of the most frustrating periods of my career.
"But I've managed to work through it and now I'm buzzing to be back out and starting a game here at Ewood.
"Today is a stepping stone, it has been my aim for ages just to get a game, so now I've done that the plan is obviously to play again and get a run of games.
"I enjoyed it, I'm glad to be back in, I'm just disappointed not to get the win as that would have topped everything off."
