Rovers Under-21s are back in action this evening when they take on Middlesbrough at Leigh Sports Village.

The match against Boro marks the start of a busy week for the development squad as they also have an Under-21 Premier League Cup semi-final against Reading at Leigh this Thursday.

Middlesbrough inflicted a first defeat of the season on Rovers when the two sides met at the Riverside Stadium back in September.

A first half brace from Bradley Fewster put the home side in control before Thomas McAloon increased their advantage.

Sam Joel scored a first Rovers goal at Under-21 level to make it 3-1, but it proved to be mere consolation.

This evening's match gives Rovers the opportunity to reverse those fortunes but it won't be easy against a Boro side with an eye on the top of the table.

If the Teesside club can get the better of Rovers then they could move from fifth in the table to first.

Victory for Rovers would also see them move up the table as they look for their third
league win of the season.

With the first team in action at home to Norwich on Tuesday night, coach Eric Kinder has named a youthful squad for this evening's game.

Following his goalscoring display for the Under-18s on Saturday, there's a reserve-team debut for Lewis Hardcastle, whilst Sam Jones, Connor Thomson and Paulo Jorge also get a runout.

ROVERS: Crump, Nyambe, Carson (c), Hardcastle, Jones, Daly, Green, Thomson, Rittenberg, Paulo Jorge, Mahoney.

Subs: Cham, Fisher, Mansell, Edgar, Tomlinson.

MIDDLESBROUGH: Ripley, Bennett, Fry, Burn (c), Husband, Maloney, Brobbel, Morris, Fewster, Kitching, McAloon.

Subs: Jackson, Chapman, Tinkler, Morelli, Fryer.
