Gary Bowyer was caretaker manager the last time the Rovers and the Bluebirds met at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Just Grant Hanley, David Dunn and Jordan Rhodes remain with the current squad from the 18 that were chosen that day as wholesale changes have been made since the 3-0 loss in April 2013.
The Rovers boss sees similarities to how he had to work hard to turn the squad around to the situation Bluebirds boss Russell Slade now finds himself in.
"When you look back I was caretaker the last time we went there and if you look at the progress that we've made since then it has been massive," added Bowyer.
"We've massively reduced the wage bill and have recruited the right types with the squad that we've got now.
"They've had a change of manager and an overhaul of their squad as well and I think Russell Slade is trying to do the same. He's got to reduce the wage bill and still be competitive.
"He's going about it the right way, he just needs time like we all do.
"We know it is going to be a tough ask going there, but we've got to make sure that we go and produce the levels that we've produced in the last week or two.
"Everybody is coming into work bouncing at the moment and we've got to keep that going and make sure that when we come back into work after the Cardiff game everybody has that big smile on their face and looking forward to the next game on Saturday."
