A healthy competition for places

9 February 2015

Gary Bowyer has a selection headache of the positive kind ahead of Tuesday night's match against Rotherham United.

The Rovers boss has a near fully fit squad for the Ewood Park encounter with just a handful of players unavailable for selection.

With Rudy Gestede and Josh King returning to the squad at the weekend, that leaves just David Dunn, John O'Sullivan and Shane Duffy as the players who won't make the match against the Millers.

Speaking on Monday afternoon, the manager said: "David Dunn is still unavailable at the moment, it is taking a little longer than what we had hoped for.

"John O'Sullivan has a bit of a bad back which is a blow for him. Shane Duffy came back today but he's missed a bit of time so he won't be in the squad tomorrow."

That still leaves Rovers with a large squad to choose from, with the manager admitting that the competition in the ranks is the best he's had since taking charge.

"The competition for places is very good, it is the best since I've been here," added Bowyer.

"The training intensity and standard over the last two weeks in particular has gone up another level with everybody being fit.

"In some of the training sessions we are having to calm the players down, that is excellent for us."

Tickets for Tuesday night's match will be on sale until the 7.45pm kick-off. Priced from £12 Adults, £9 Seniors/Students and £5 for Under 17s.
