Rovers Under-21s will be out to continue their fine form when they take on Newcastle United this Monday night.
Damien Johnson's young charges have won four of their last six league outings, and head into tonight's match at Leigh Sports Village in good heart.
Rovers met this evening's opponents back in August, with the two sides sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the north east.
Anton Forrester, who is now on loan at League Two Morecambe, opened the scoring for Rovers, but Jamie Sterry equalised for the hosts.
With the seniors in action on Friday night against Rotherham United, Johnson has named a young squad for this evening's match with just David Raya in goal with any meaningful first team experience.
Academy full back Josh Askew has been handed his debut at this level, whilst fellow Under-18 defender Charley Doyle gets another runout for the development squad following his impressive first appearance for the Under-21s last week.
The visitors have four players in their squad with first team experience including forward Sylvain Marveaux.
